MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — According to the CDC, teachers will be next in line to receive a coronavirus vaccine following front-line workers, including nurses. Alabama Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey said he expects the vaccination process to start by February or March. Staff and childcare workers between kindergarten and 12th grades will also be vaccinated.

“They’re in the very next group. We’re currently in the 1A group, which is prioritizing healthcare workers and nursing home residents,” Dr. Scott Harris, Alabama’s Health Officer said.

Dr. Mackey said state leaders are working out a logistical plan for getting the vaccine. He’s confident that all teachers will be vaccinated by the end of the school year. But that depends on how many doses the state receives for public school employees.

“I really believe, say, after spring break. So the middle of March in 2021 we’ll have most of our students back in in-person instruction,” Dr. Mackey said.
