Some Milwaukee Public School students are headed back to school today, the third year of the district’s early-start calendar.
Forty-three out of 160 MPS schools, including all high schools, start Monday.
A first-day back celebration will take place at Golda Meir School from 7:15 to 9 a.m., MPS said in a news release.
Students will be welcomed by a drum line and be cheered on by superintendent Keith Posley, members of the MPS school board and others as they walk a red carpet into school.
The early-start schedule was proposed and approved in 2016 to give students more learning time ahead of testing windows for state and college exams. A unified schedule was originally proposed, with all schools beginning in August, but school board members voted to limit early start to specific schools.
